Pardon the President (ial politics)
Tim Thinks... October 16th, 2008
It’s getting irritating. No, it’s past irritating. And yes I am talking about our presidential election. How can two grown men on national TV look at each other and say the things they do in a debate and on national TV is beyond me. I don’t know how Barack Obama or John McCain sleep at night. I certainly don’t know how they can let their children (or grandchildren) watch their TV ads. It’s despicable! What on earth are we teaching our young people? It’s no wonder so many have little interest in serving in elected positions. I was on a college campus briefly last night and was surprised to see a room full of kids watching the debate. I wondered what they thought about these two after growing up with messages like be respectful, tell the truth, honor others, and proudly serve. After watching and hearing all the mud slinging for weeks, I ready for a break. I wish they would just tell us what they COULD do instead of what the other won’t do or hasn’t done. It’s the opposite of what I try to write about her. They are teaching poverty pontification and it needs to stop. Of course it will in a few weeks. Everyone will be nice when the election is over. Barack and John will shake hands, wish each other well, and promise to help the other. Theyn after the holidays it will all start again. To our international friends, please pardon our behavior. We are not like this all the time. Trust me, it’s only at election time.

Tim, it’s a good thing to publically disagree. Even to be publically disagreeable. I’ve lived in countries where it just isn’t done. As “disagreeable” as it is to hear all the he said, he said, it is SUCH an agreeable thing! We need good debate, good discussion, good argument, good conversation. It is why we are America.
I invite you to attend both Democrat and Republican Returns Parties on Tuesday night. Take it in, drink it in, enjoy it. This is the Democratic process and you should immerse yourself in it, not just involuntarily dangle on the annoying periphery like 99% of the populace.
I may be in deep clinical depression for the next 6 or 8 months if my man doesn’t win, but I won’t be sorry to have had the experience.
