Live From San Diego…

Making a Difference in the World July 10th, 2007

I am writing this week from

San Diego and my annual National Speakers Association convention. This is the 18th convention I have attended and it’s always a great event for networking, learning, idea sharing, and of course fun. Image 2000 motivational speakers, inspirational speakers, leadership speakers, humorists, and authors gathered in one place. One of these days, we need to combine our meeting with the National Listeners Association so someone can be an audience! This week, I’ll be blogging about my experiences here and what I learned. I’ll also feature at least one person each day attending the conference and who lives an exemplary rich life.John Alston is a long time motivational speaker from LA. He started out primarily speaking in the youth market and continues to make a difference there though his own children are grown. It takes a special person to be able to make it in that market (if you have teenagers you know what I mean). Though I have known John for many years, I didn’t know until recently that he mentors as risk African American males and has for over 25 years. To date, John has helped hundreds of young people through his efforts. Some of these young men have gone on to become doctors, lawyers, ministers, business people and successful business people giving money to John’s program which has raised over 1.6 million to provide scholarships for inner city youth.

Fun and Frivolous July 8th, 2007

Paul Harvey reminded me yesterday that it was 7-7-7. It was a day to have good luck, according to the story. Last year, my birthday fell on 6-6-6. It was supposed to be a bad day (alas, other than turning another year old, it was a pretty good day). I think 8-8-8 will be a good day too - as will be 9-9-9. It’s probably a good thing there is no 13th month. If there were, I’d plan a party starting at 1300 hours on the 13th floor and invite at least 1313 people for a 13 course dinner. Everything is exactly how it’s supposed to be as I don’t think I know 1313 people I’d want to invite.

Happy Fourth of July!

Celebrations July 4th, 2007

july-2005-032.jpgWe have made it a tradition the last few years to spend the 4th of July at Lake Junaluska in Western North Carolina. There’s an old-fashioned 4th of July arade, followed by a family picnic, and then the Junaluska Singers concert right before the fireworks. It’s a fabulous evening. It’s truly Living Rich…
